Benton is a town in Kennebec County, Maine, United States. It was formed in 1842, as a subdivision of the town of Clinton. The population was 2,732 at the 2010 census. The town was named for Missouri Senator Thomas Hart Benton.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 29.06 square miles (75.27 km2), of which, 28.41 square miles (73.58 km2) of it is land and 0.65 square miles (1.68 km2) is water.

As of the census of 2010, there were 2,732 people, 1,104 households, and 792 families residing in the town. The population density was 96.2 inhabitants per square mile (37.1/km2). There were 1,164 housing units at an average density of 41.0 per square mile (15.8/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.6% of the population.
